KIMBERLEY. – ‘n Aanklaer, Anele Khohlani (36), is Vrydag in die Kimberley-streekshof skuldig bevind op aanklag van korrupsie en is tot drie jaar tronkstraf en ‘n boete van R60 000 gevonnis.

PROSECUTOR SLAPPED WITH HEFTY SENTENCE AFTER APPEAL
NORTHERN CAPE – A 36 year old prosecutor Anele Khohlani appeared before Kimberley Regional court on Friday,14 May 2021 after his appeal.
Charge of corruption
Khohlani was convicted on charge of corruption after he was found guilty for accepting a gratification of R1 500 in order to withdraw a criminal case against a member of the public. He was then sentenced to a fine of R60 000 or three years imprisonment which was suspended for a period of five years by Kimberley Magistrate court during March 2019.
Filed an appeal
The accused filed an appeal at the High court which was later dismissed and the sentence imposed by the Regional court was substituted by the High court. Khohlani was sentenced to six years imprisonment of which two years is suspended for the period of five years on condition that the accused is not found guilty of corruption during the period of suspension. He will serve an effective four years direct imprisonment.
The Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Major General Kholekile Galawe congratulated the Serious Corruption Investigation team for the sterling work.
