GAUTENG.

HE WANTS TO EMPOWER COACHES, PLAYERS
Former Springbok and Northern Transvaal captain and flyhalf Naas Botha confirmed that he has been appointed as the Hoërskool Eldoraigne’s new Director of Rugby.
He started his new job on Tuesday with a strategic session with all the coaches at the school and was impressed by what he observed.”
“I told the guys that I do not plan to run a one-man show as that would be a futile exercise. What I want to do is for them to tap into my experience and expertise to become better coaches. Empowering them as such will be very rewarding. I will not be a ‘knows in all’ director and reach out to experts from outside the school environment if that will be for the betterment of rugby at Eldoraigne.”
As far as the players go, Botha tends to “create an environment in which each and everyone can feel safe and respected and one that will bring out their true potential. I can and will not promise either the coaches or the players that I am a wonder-worker. I will therefore not make any sweeping statements about how we are going to win every trophy at stake in 2024 to use just one example.”
Botha says from what he has learned the potential is there to make Eldoraigne a leading rugby school inside and outside the jurisdiction of the BBRU. Eldoraigne is surrounded by primary schools that are pacesetters in their leagues. The sad part however is that their best players do not all see Eldoraigne as the obvious first-choice rugby high school.
“The challenge will be to overcome this mind shift by what we as a team accomplish at Elodraigne. In this regard, every coach, player and, other role players will have to buy into the vision we have for Eldoraigne. It will take hard work, commitment, and passion to do everything better and smarter than in the past.”
