According to NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwana one suspect has been charged for the murder of Doctor George Kokoba, while to other suspects who were arrested were released as they could not be linked to the crime. Suspect number three appeared in court after being charged in connection with the murder of doctor Kokoba who was killed on Friday 25 March.
The 32-year-old suspect who was arrested for the murder of Kokoba appeared at the Orlando magistrates court on Monday after being charged for murder. Kokoba was shot and killed in his surgery in broad day light with patients waiting in line to receive treatment. His brother tried to rush him to hospital after finding out about the shooting, but he was declared dead on arrival.

CCTV footage captured a group of armed men who entered the surgery while people waited in line to see the doctor. What happened next shocked the patients, as two suspects are seen walking straight into the doctor’s office and that is where he was shot twice by a suspect. The third suspect who was not wearing a mask is captured clearly by the cameras.
Video footage shows that four suspects were there when the doctor was killed. The case has been postponed to 4 April 2022. It is alleged that the suspects went into the surgery and robbed patients of their cellphones the week before the killing. It is believed that Kokoba followed the suspects and was able to locate where they lived. Police went and arrested the suspects but released them few days later. Only one of the four suspects seen in the footage has been charged for the crime.
