Doctor killed in his surgery with patients waiting

A 56-year-old doctor was killed in his surgery in Diepkloof, when four armed suspects stormed into his surgery and shot him.

Dr. George Koboka was shot just after 14:00 Friday in his office when the suspects entered his surgery, went straight to his office and shot him.

Lt. col. Mavela Masondo, police spokesperson, said he was rushed to hospital but died. Masondo said the suspects did not steal anything during the shooting.

The suspects fled the scene in a Toyota Quantum.

The police launched an immediate manhunt and arrested three suspects, aged 23, 28 and 33 in Soweto.

According to an anonymous source one of the suspects who was involved in the killing of Dr Kokoba is a Gauteng taxi driver who comes from KwaZulu-Natal. The source further mentioned that the suspects is believed to have been the one who was transporting the alleged killers and was found in possession of the vehicle which was seen when the crime took place.

Police are still searching for one more suspect and have called on anyone with information to come forward. The three suspects will appear in court for murder. Tributes have poured in with people saying Dr Kokoba was the best doctor in Diepkloof.

A week before the killing, armed suspects stormed the same surgery and robbed patients of their cell phones.

The three suspects are appearing in court today.
