Tebogo Olyn sentenced to 30 years in prison for rape

Tebogo Olyn (27) has been found guilty and sentenced to thirty years imprisonment on two counts of rape after he appeared in the Mothibistad Regional Court on Wednesday, 23 February 2022.


Captain Olebogeng Tawana, Western Cape Police Spokesperson says the accused raped a 14-year-old girl on 21 May 2014.

On the day he perpetrated the crime, he had visited the victim’s family, and went straight to the victim’s bedroom and forced himself on her on two occasions and threatened the victim not to tell anyone about the rape incident. The victim informed her mother about the rape ordeal.


During the court proceedings, it appeared that Tebogo was a close family friend, the victim’s family did not suspect that he could rape or commit any crime against the victim.

The Mothibistad Regional Court also declared Tebogo Olyn unfit to possess a firearm and ordered that his name to be recorded in the National Sexual Offenders Register.
