Wanneer daar berig word oor ‘n gebeurtenis of enige ander toneel is mens geneig om dit te “sugarcoat’ op ‘n manier, maar die woorde van ‘n paramedikus wat gister op die toneel was, skets rou gevoelens.
Alhoewel die polisie en nood- mediese dienste saam met ander owerhede en rolspelers hulle werk as ‘n roeping sien, moet daar verstaan word dat wat hulle sien, deurgaan, aan vat, nooit “ongesien” gemaak kan word nie.
Daarom ‘n groot dankie van FiND iT aan elke liewe polisielid, nood- mediese dienste personeellid, brandbestryder, personeel van sekuriteitsdienste, insleepdienste en ander owerhede en rolspelers wat dag na dag tonele bywoon en families vertroos, afskakel en dan moet voortgaan na die volgende toneel.
Gister was so ‘n groot insident in Boksburg.
Deur te kyk na die video van die ontploffing het hoendervleis gegee, maar wat op die toneel aangegaan het, kan net deur dié wat daar betrokke is, beskryf word en dan sal die normale mens op straat steeds nie ‘n begrip hê van hoe dit werklik was nie, omdat hulle nie self daar was nie.
Soveel sleutelbordsoldate plaas daagliks negatiewe kommentaar waarin hierdie mense aangeval word, maar wat sou jy werklik in so ‘n situasie gedoen het? Veral sonder hierdie mense?
Dit is ‘n toneel wat geskok het.
Soos wat dinge begin rustiger raak en gekyk word na al die skade, wat jy weet eindelik reggemaak sal kan word, is daar steeds die nagmerries oor die menslike sy wat jare van nou ingeëts sal bly in die lewens van dié wat daar was.
Intussen stroom hulp in van oral, selfs uit die Boksburg-gemeenskap self en van Gift of The Givers, vir hulp met watookal slagoffers in hierdie moeilike tyd mag nodig hê en staan SA saam om die fisiese te help verlig.

The call that almost broke me:
At around 08:00 this morning myself and many other first responders headed to Boksburg for a report of an explosion with multiple casualties.
What we drove into was something that have left me numb and broken inside. It felt like walking in an apocalyptic nightmare.
For the first time in my career did I empty almost all my disposables, no bandages, burn shield or IV fluids were left, and we carry a lot.
The sheer amount of burns and trauma and severely injured patients were overwhelming.
So many people walking up to you with skin literally dripping off their bodies, so many dead, so many body parts. It was horrific.
The tanker truck carrying 60 000 litres of LP gas got stuck under a bridge and caught fire, after attempting to cool it down it BLEVE’d resulting in a very large explosion.
But then I also experience a significant call to action by so many people and agencies.
Robert Izzett, you appeared out of nowhere and just seeing you calmed me down.
Christopher Morris, Motswai and Phetla, to have you with me under horrific conditions brought calm to a situation I felt like running away from.
Waseela Mohammed, Thabo Makwetla Tlaka, Jane Kekana, David Kenneth Mtshotwane, Rikus von Benecke and the rest of the over 63 Gauteng Emergency Medical Services’ green angels that were in attendance – what you did today was significant.

At some stage we an unaccounted for P4 and I set off with Ruan Heyns and CERT-SA team hoping to hook up with the Christo Prinsloo, Len and Ian from SAPS K9 Search and Rescue. We met up with Jamie L Potgieter and Gerhard Potgieter from NSRI, it was just what my soul needed at that stage.
Walking the area with all of you and Christo (whose K9 Mira was on her first operation, a sign of things to come young pup) just took the edge of the situation.
