Three suspects have been arrested following the mass shooting in Khayelitsha over the weekend which claimed two lives and injured three people. The shooting happened in the early hours of Saturday morning when armed suspects opened fire and killed two people.
According to Captain Frederick van Wyk, the police spokesperson, “The South African police worked around the clock in search of the armed suspects who were involved in the mass shooting in Khayelitsha. Police officers arrested the alleged shooters on Monday morning.”

The police made a breakthrough in the case when they were able to apprehend the three suspects who were allegedly involved in the shooting of five people at Mandela Park in Khayelitsha, claiming the lives of two and injuring three people.
The murdered men were aged 30 and 37, while a woman aged 30 and two other men aged 28 and 30 were taken to hospital following the deadly shooting. The three suspects involved in the murder are aged 29, 32 and 40 years of age and will be facing two counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder with the possibility of charges of being in possession of unlicensed firearms being included.
Sergeant Wesley Twigg, the police spokesperson, said police are still trying to investigate the motive behind the killing. “Police were called to the crime scene where they found the victims with gunshot wounds to their bodies. The two men were declared deceased on the scene by paramedics. The other victims were taken to a medical facility for medical treatment.”
This is one of three mass shootings that have happened in Khayelitsha in less than a month. It is not clear if the cases are linked.
