Man to appear in court for murder of friend

It is alleged that on 13 November 2019 just after midnight, Cebo Mkhize (30) was shot by a known suspect while he was in Sydney Road at Dalton Men’s Hostel.

Lt. Col. Nqobile Gwala, police spokesperson, says the victim was taken to the hospital where he demised due to his injuries.

A case of murder was opened for investigation by Umbilo SAPS. The preliminary investigation conducted by police revealed that the deceased was fatally shot for unknown reasons by his friend.

Umbilo Detectives received information about the suspect involved in the murder of Mkhize.

The team traced the man, following all possible leads. The investigation led them to Hluhluwe where the 31-year-old suspect was arrested with the assistance of local detectives.

The man was arrested on Thursday, 7 April 2022 while he was appearing in court for a business robbery case that was committed in Hluhluwe in February 2022.

The suspect will be profiled to check if he is linked to other serious and violent cases reported in Durban and surrounding areas. He is expected to appear before the Durban Magistrate’s Court today.
