A 43-year-old woman from the Western Cape was arrested for falsely accusing her boyfriend of raping her. The Western Cape police said the accused opened a rape case at the Milnerton police station on March 12. “She later withdrew the case, and she was referred to court where she confessed that she lied about being raped, police said.
According to the police, not everything is as it seems and, in this case, it has been seen and will be proven that she lied about being raped. She confessed to the lies and will be facing a charge of perjury in court. On 4 April the woman was arrested and detained at Atlantis where she confessed and revealed that she lied about her boyfriend raping her.

The woman was detained on Monday and appeared at the Atlantis Magistrate’s Court on Thursday. “Perjury is a seriously punishable offence and anyone who commits perjury will face prosecution,” said the police. Unfortunately, the damage has been done to the wrongfully accused boyfriend and this has done disservice to real victims of sexual assault.”
In s similar incident, a 28-year-old KwaZulu Natal woman was arrested and charged with perjury for falsely accusing two brothers of raping her. Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala, the police spokesperson, said the woman claimed that on 11 February while she was sleeping in a house at B section in Osizweni, she heard someone opening the door.
“She alleged that the known suspect, carrying a knife, entered and accused her of not paying rent. She further accused the man and his brother of raping her, and charges of rape were opened at Osizweni police station,” she said.
Following an intensive investigation, it was found that the woman lied under oath and the men were released.
