Russia has imposed sanctions against US president Joe Biden and a long list of American officials on Tuesday. This move has escalated tensions even more as the Russian troops continue with their invasion in Ukraine which has now displaced over three million people.
According to a statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday, Russia has banned members of the Biden administration which also includes Hillary Clinton, the former US Secretary of State and Joe Biden’s son Hunter from entering Russia and will freeze any assets they have in the country.

This move is symbolic as the US would unlikely send members to Russia as the tensions are so high over the invasion of Ukraine. The sanctions imposed by the US and the other world powers have crippled the Russian economy. Russia struck back by increasing the price of oil and gas which most countries rely on. The world powers announced that they will be slowly stop purchasing oil and gas from Russia.
On Tuesday the US extended its sanctions and announced that 11 Russian defence leaders have now been sanctioned. Among the new listed people sanctioned by the US is Alexander Lukashenko, the president of Belarus and his wife. Lukashenko has been accused of being directly involved in the invasion of Ukraine. The United Kingdom (UK) has sanctioned 370 Russian people with close ties to Vladimir Putin. Among the sanctioned is former Russian leader Dmitry Medvedev.
