Six men alleged to be in their early 20s were shot and killed with two others wounded in a house in Umlazi, Durban, on Monday afternoon, said the police. According to Jay Naicker, the KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, the shooting happened in an informal settlement.
“It is alleged that at 1 p.m. a group of men aged between 22 and 25 years old, were seated in a house at an informal settlement in N section, Umlazi, when they were attacked by approximately seven men who were armed with pistols. Six men were instantly killed at the scene,” Naicker said.

The police found two other men who had sustained wounds from the deadly shooting and rushed them to hospital. Police have launched a manhunt for the seven suspects involved in the deadly shooting. Six cases of murder and two cases of attempted murder have been open at the Umlazi police station.

This ruthless killing follows the killing of five people who were also killed in similar circumstances in Khayelitsha in the Western Cape just hours before. A woman and four men were shot and killed by armed suspects. Novela Potelwa, the Western Cape police spokesperson, said the armed suspects stormed shacks in Monwabisi Park informal settlement in Endlovini, Khayelitsha, in the early hours of the morning.
