NORTHERN CAPE: The Northern Cape Provincial Head of the FCS units, Brigadier Nicky Mills, commended Sergeant Edwin Thabapelo for the meticulous investigative work in the rape case against Bolelang Kopang (35).

On Wednesday 23 February 2022 the Pampierstad Regional Court found Bolelang guilty as charged and sentenced him to ten years direct imprisonment, on a charge of rape.

The accused raped a 21-year-old woman in January 2018. On the day of the rape incident, the victim’s family had requested the services of the accused to repair the DSTV at their home. The victim was alone at home and the accused pinned her down in the bedroom and raped her.

The victim escaped and ran for help. The accused fled the scene and was arrested shortly after the victim had laid a complaint at the Pampierstad police station.

During sentencing the Magistrate declared him unfit to possess a firearm and instructed that his name to be recorded in the National Sexual Offenders Register. Brigadier Nicky Mills praised the National Prosecuting Authority and Department of Justice for putting the accused behind bars.
