An incident that took place fours years ago in Northern Cape with the uncle raping his niece has ended with the suspect sentenced to life imprisonment.

According to the Captain Olebogeng Tawana, in October 2017 the victim was raped while in the care of her uncle with her mother at work.
The uncle threatened to take the life of the victim if she reports the incident, but her pregnancy was always going disclose the truth of the matter.

On 26 January 2018, the case of rape was opened against the suspect and the DNA tests were conducted, victim’s pregnancy pointed to the uncle. On 26 November 2022, the suspect was found guilty.
Yesterday, 21 February, the suspect was handed a life imprisonment sentence after being found guilty of raping his niece.
Tawana says the life imprisonment to the suspect should serve as a deterrent to criminals who are continuing to abuse women and children.
