A 23-year-old woman in Vietnam’s northern Lao Cai province died last Thursday after receiving her second Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine.
The provincial health department said the patient “died of grade 4 anaphylactic reaction after Covid-19 vaccination due to inherent characteristics of vaccines”, but that her death was not related to the vaccination process, transport, storage and use of the vaccine.
She did not experience any abnormal reaction after her first vaccination on 21 November. After receiving the second Pfizer vaccine on December 30, she stayed at the health monitoring vaccination facility for 30 minutes and began to feel tired, short of breath, abdominal pain and nausea.
She was treated by medical staff on site and was transferred to Sa Pa Town General Hospital, where a team from Lao Cai Provincial General Hospital provided first aid. However, she died at 9pm on the same day. The same Pfizer vaccine bottle was administered to six other people and she was the second recipient. Local health officials said five other people were in stable and normal health. This is the fifth Covid vaccination death in the country due to overreaction to the Pfizer vaccine, the other victims are children between 12 and 16 years old.
