Police Minister Bheki Cele calls on the police to stay calm when dealing with unruly or drunk citizens during the festive season.
The police minister Bheki Cele was accompanied by police top brass, led by General Khehla Sitole, who visited Mthatha in the Eastern Cape where he appealed to members of the South African Police Service to do their job protecting the nation diligently.
Cele was taking part in the annual Safer Festive Season Inspection Tour in the province.
The visit formed part of efforts by police to channel resources to areas where most needed to ensure they deal decisively with crime during the holiday season.
Many people migrated to the Western Cape over the years in search for better job opportunities and during every holiday season they travel back to their home province.
They return to the Western Cape at the beginning of each year.
This festive season is the first since 2019 in which the public are allowed to enjoy themselves at the beach. Many holidaymakers are expected to flock to the seaside at different coasts over the period of December.
Bheki Cele placed emphasis on the issue of women and children who are the most vulnerable members of society and that extra care should be taken to ensure they are protected.
Meanwhile, police minister Bheki Cele destroyed confiscated alcohol on Monday at the annual Safer Season Inspection Tour in the Western Cape.
