“Today we say goodbye to a daughter, a sister, a niece, a granddaughter, a friend and also a mother. Someone whom all of you loved very much.”

Rev. Petri Spies greeted funeral goers at this morning’s memorial service for Rochelle Drury, who committed suicide on 3 November, 2021.

The memorial service took place in the Baptist Church in Langenhovenpark in Bloemfontein today. Rev. Spies described Drury as someone who was artistic, always looked beautiful and looked after her children.

Someone who had a contagious laugh and someone who was gentle. “Although she had a small heart, she could also stand up for herself.”

It was a sad day for the Drury family as well as the friends of Rochelle where she was said goodbye to for the last time. Drury and her boyfriend, Jason Jonker, committed suicide two days apart. They have an 11-month-old baby boy together.
