Police are investigating a case in which election ballot boxes from five different voting stations were transported by taxi in the Ehlanzeni District.
According to police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala a complaint was received alleging that on Tuesday, around 03:30, ballot boxes from several voting stations were delivered at the Mhala IEC office in Ward 16 in a taxi.
Mohlala said that the fact that the taxi driver was wearing an ANC shirt caught the attention of other parties.
“They approached the taxi and found that they had loaded ballot boxes for five voting stations. They discovered that seals of eight ballot boxes have been tampered with. The municipal election official confirmed that the boxes were tampered with upon arrival and that it is not allowed to use one common transport for different stations.”
Mohlala added that the driver is not allowed to wear any political identity clothing. The investigation continues.
