The first funeral for the Miami Champlain Towers collapse victims was held nearly two weeks after the disaster a month ago, as another eight victims were found.
On June 24 2021, the Champlain Towers South collapsed, the confirmed death toll now stands at 36 so far while another 109 people , who may have been inside the building, are still missing.
The search-and-rescue operation has reached its 14th day, with wind and rain from Hurricane Elsa disrupting the effort.
“Right now, we’re in search and rescue mode,” the county’s police director, Freddy Ramirez, said at a news conference on Tuesday evening. He soon added: “Our primary goal right now is to bring closure to the families.”
No survivors have been found since the first few hours after the collapse however searchers are still looking for open spaces where survivors might be found.
The county’s fire chief, Alan Cominsky, has said that they aren’t seeing anything positive.
