NC:MURDERER, RAPIST GETS DOUBLE LIFE IMPRISONMENT

KIMBERLEY- The Northern Cape Police Management welcome double life sentence handed down on Johannes Moroe(40).

On Thursday, 05 March 2020, Moroe was found guilty and sentenced to double life imprisonment by the Northern Cape High Court.

The SAPS Management applauded the Investigating Officer Lieutenant Colonel Marilyn Strydom for job well done, meticulous investigation which resulted to double life sentence against Moroe.

In 20 April 2019, Moroe gained forced entry into the house of his ex-girlfriend in Rooikoppies, Delportshoop, held knife to her throat in an attempt to rape her. Subsequent failing to rape his ex-girlfriend he grabbed a 23-months old baby and fled the scene.

Toddler’s clothes were found near the banks of the Vaal River the following day.

six days later, after intensive search the South African Police Service search and rescue team discovered 23-months old baby girl’s body submerged in the Vaal River near Delportshoop.

It came to light during the court proceeding that the toddler was still alive when she was sunken into the river . Moroe violated protection order which his girlfriend had against him.

Moroe was found guilty and sentenced as follows; count 1, 3 years imprisonment for contravention of protection order; count 2, 5 years imprisonment for house breaking; count 3, 6 years imprisonment for attempted rape; count 7, life term imprisonment for rape; count 8, life term imprisonment for murder and count 9, 9 months imprisonment for defeating the ends of justice.

The sentences were ordered to run concurrently.

Lengthy jail terms continues to restore faith and hope in the society, and should deter criminals from committing crimes against women and children.
