For over 20 years anglers have enjoyed an exceptional fly fishing experience at Rooipoort Nature Reserve. Rooipoort is located about 65 km west of Kimberley and is situated on the transition zone between the Karoo, Kalahari and grassland zones.
Untouched and uninterrupted Vaal River frontage
Rooipoort offers 32 km of largely uninterrupted Vaal River frontage and boasts some of the greatest areas for fly fishing anglers to catch key species all year round.
The busiest time of the year for fishing at Rooipoort is during the summer months from October to April. However, certain species like the largemouth yellowfish, can be caught in the winter months too.
Rooipoort and the surrounding area of the Vaal River is largely untouched and is currently one of the best preserved areas in the country.
The Rooipoort adventure is for everyone
The adventure is not only for anglers. The wildlife is exquisite and just as beautiful for non-fisherman. If you are a keen birder, pack in your binoculars and bird book, as the birdlife along the banks can sometimes be more exciting than the fish, but only sometimes.
Competitive rates and accommodation options aplenty
With the option for a guided adventure and various great accommodation options to choose from anyone can afford to have an adventure at Rooipoort Nature Reserve.
Rooipoort offers several cottages on the reserve as well as a camping area for the adventurers who would like to pitch a tent.
Rustic eco-friendly fly camp opening soon
Visitors can soon expect an eco-friendly fly fishing camp set right on the bank of the Vaal.
