GQEBERHA. – Marolien Schmidt (40), bekende fisioterapeut van die Baai, is Woensdag 9 Augustus 2023 brutaal by haar huis in Richmond Hill vermoor. ‘n Verdagte (29) is vanoggend in hegtenis geneem.
Kapt. Sandra Janse van Rensburg sê Humewood-polisiestasie se speurders het die deurbraak gemaak. Schmidt se bure het na bewering Woensdag 9 Augustus op Nasionale Vrouedag gehoor hoe sy skree en ondersoek ingestel. Sy is met verskeie steekwonde op die vloer gevind. Sy is na ‘n hospitaal gehaas, maar het aan haar beserings gesterf. Die motief vir haar moord is vermoedelik roof.
Die verdagte sal na verwagting Maandag 14 Augustus 2023 in die Gqeberha-landdroshof op ‘n aanklag van moord verskyn. Die polisie het aangedui dat hulle borg sal opponeer.

I am very excited to report that a suspect has been arrested and allegedly confessed to the murder of our beloved Marolien Schmidt.
My camera footage provided information that helped identify the (alleged) tsotsi, and provided information about our crime hotspots that led them to his likely location.
I hosted all manner of senior SAPS officers and crime intelligence who were assigned to resolve this case as a matter of urgency.
We have to praise SAPS for their tremendous effort. Some people did not rest until the suspect was captured around 01:00 this morning.
So less than 24 hours to potentially solve the most heinous crime our community has suffered.
