Jonathan Ball Publishers publiseer Black Lion: Alive in the Wilderness ( 281 bladsye) geskryf deur Sicelo Mbatha met Bridget Pitt, ’n omgewingskundige en outeur.

Dr. Ian McCallum, ’n spesialis wildernisgids, skryf die volgende op die agterblad: “A remarkable story … poetic and beautifully written. It goes to the heart of the meaning of ecological literacy.”

Hy begelei ook ander om hierdie ervaringe te hê: “All … were given a rare opportunity to experience the simple healing power of connecting to the wilderness, and to extend their intellectual and emotional horizons” (197).

Uittreksel 1: “People go to great lengths to escape the pressures brought on by the modern world, often turning to drugs or alcohol. But these are only temporary medicines, for the new dawn will greet them with the same chronic illnesses of depression and anxiety. People chase after luxury, believing it will bring happiness. I was so fortunate to have discovered at the age of twenty that by sitting in the lap of the earth under the African stars in the pitch dark with nothing but my own body and soul, I could hear the music of the sacred world and set my spirit dancing” (66).

Uittreksel 2: “The white rhino  … lay down on the ground right in front of me. … This made me realise how much of our communication with animals happen on a deep and subtle level; that with their heightened senses animals can look into our souls, sense our emotions and intentions, and reflect them back to us.  … I was learning that nature is a mirror I can use to reflect on my own intentions, for introspection into my emotional state, revealing feelings that may have been hidden from my conscious mind”.
