A ward councillor from eThekwini has apologised for swearing at a resident who desperately asked for assistance in Springtown after the floods wrecked havoc in the province of KwaZulu-Natal. Themba Mkhize, a ward 25 councillor from eThekwini swore at a resident who called for assistance and intervention via WhatsApp messages.
The resident complained that the councillor was ignoring his pleas for help before receiving a text saying “f**ck you”. A screenshot of the of the texts made circulation on social media on Sunday evening. In the text the resident sent a message to the councillor calling for councillor to provide aid for the people in Springtown at 10:49. The resident sent another text at two minutes later which said “Don’t read my message and not reply. Many families under your ward lost their homes and their lives and you are not doing a thing.”

In a response to the texts that made circulation Mkhize said “For me to say f**k you, it wasn’t my intention and I apologise for it. But I still believe the person was basically swearing at me too by saying I am sitting down and doing nothing.
“There are a lot of swear words they use on me. I’ve saved them and I just laugh because that’s what I was told to do. I went everywhere, even Springtown, the area of the person who said I’m sitting down and doing nothing. I got there were two people who were injured, including a police officer,” Mkhize said.
