Police in Johannesburg Central have arrested five suspects who were wanted for four murder cases and four attempted murder cases. The five suspects were arrested in connection with a deadly shooting at a dump site in Johannesburg.
On Tuesday morning, detectives along with the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD), arrested five suspects aged between 20 and 43 years. The suspects were wanted following a deadly shooting which happened on the corner of Albert and Berea Street in March.

Captain Xoli Mbele, the South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson, said the murder and attempted murder incident happened at the Matric Cables Flat in Johannesburg last month. “Two unlicensed firearms and ammunition were recovered during the operation,” said Mbele.
“Police received a tip-off from the community about the whereabouts of the wanted suspects and operationalised it. Some of the suspects can be linked to murders and attempted murders that took place in Rosettenville and Fennel dump site on 3 March 2022.”
“There was a fight between two groups over who could occupy and work at the Funnel dumping site. They collect items from the dumping site so that they can sell it and make money for a living. The fight resulted in eight people being shot. Four sustained injuries and the other four were killed on the scene,” said Mbele.
Mbele said the firearms will be taken for ballistic testing to see if they were used in other violent crimes. The five suspects will be appearing at the Johannesburg Magistrates Court soon.
