Onthatile Sebathi, who is charged for ordering a hit by two cousins, Kagiso and Tumelo Mokone, on her family members when she was 15 years old, is still behind bars despite being granted R10 000 bail in January 2022. None of her family have paid the bail amount for her release.
Her paternal family has refused to pay bail, while her maternal family has not decided on whether they will get her out or not. While the Mokones walked to the dock from the gallery, Onthatile emerged from the holding cells.

“Definitely we will not pay bail for her. That’s my feeling at this point in time. I don’t know about her maternal family and what they are going to do about it, but from my side, there will be no payment of bail,” said her father’s uncle Peter Ratlhagane.
Sebathi and her co-accused and the alleged hitman Kagiso and Tumelo Mokone both aged 23, were back at the Brits Magistrates Court on Wednesday. Sebathi allegedly hired the Mokones to kill her father Lucky who was a policeman, her mother Mmatshepo, her brother Quinton, and her pregnant sister Tshegofatso. The family was shot and killed in their home in December 2016.
The Mokones were arrested after the confession of Sebathi at the North West police station. She confessed that she was responsible for her family’s death at the beginning of December. The case has been postponed to 11 May for further investigation.
