There have been mixed reactions on Twitter after Will Smith slapped Chris Rock over his joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair loss, which is caused by alopecia. The off-colour joke turned ugly when Will Smith slapped Chris Rock after he had been seen to laugh at the joke.
Smith went on to win the best actor award minutes later for his role in King Richard. The slapping of American presenter and comedian for what was perceived as an inappropriate joke about Smith’s wife set Twitter aflame with some people supporting Will Smith for defending his wife and other condemning his use of violence.

Jedd Apatow, a comedian, and director, called the display “pure out of control rage and violence” and claimed that that slap could have filled Chris Rock. The Film Academy has condemned Smith’s actions. Here are some of the tweets that were shared after the incident:
