Two suspected robbers were killed in a car crash with three others surviving in a high-speed police chase on Inanda road near Durban on Saturday afternoon. According to Colonel Thembeka Mbele, the KwaZulu Natal police spokesperson said on Saturday police officers in Phoenix received a tip off that a vehicle with five occupants who allegedly were seen committing a house robbery earlier in the week was passing by.
The police did an investigation and while viewing video footage of the car they that the same car had been used in a robbery incident last week Thursday in Phoenix. The suspects pretended to be municipal workers when they committed the crime. The police received further information that the suspects were heading to KwaMashu from Reservoir Hills.

The police wasted no time and drove towards the M19 following a lead which they had received. While on M19, they spotted the wanted car on Inanda road driving towards Parlock. Mbele said a high-speed chase ensued and there was gun exchange between the suspects who were trying to flee and the police. “The suspects’ vehicle crashed along a barrier on Inanda Road near Parlock. All five suspects were apprehended at the scene. The suspects were injured in the collision and two were declared dead on scene while the other three were detained,” said Mbele.
During a search of the vehicle, the police found two firearms, jewellery and other items. On investigation it was found that one of the suspects was out on bail for robbery which was committed last November at Phoenix Plaza. “The three suspects will be appearing in the Durban magistrates court facing charges of attempted murder, possession of suspected stolen property as well as unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition,” said Mbele on Sunday.
