Bathabile Dlamini, the embattled African National Congress (ANC) women’s league president will learn whether she will be booted out or not at the national executive committee (NEC) which is attending this weekend.
Dlamini was found guilty of perjury by the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court earlier this month as it was found that she lied under oath during the 2017 enquiry into the social grant’s debacle at the South African Social Security Agency. There have been growing calls from opposition parties calling for her removal following the guilty verdict.

It was found that Dlamini is not a first-time offender and the ANC 2017 step aside rule would be the killer blow to the women’s league president. The step aside rule said that anyone who is charged for wrongdoing has to step aside and Dlamini had not stepped aside. The guilty verdict by the court would be the final nail that gets Dlamini booted out.
The NEC meeting is underway, and the meeting is taking place virtually. The 80 members body is has already heard and discussed certain issues and looked at presentations. This includes the state of the organisation report and the president’s political overview.
The ANC Women’s league has been reported to have been struggling under the leadership of Bathabile Dlamini. Several provinces have not been able to grow their membership base and the women’s league has not been seen active in the fight against gender-based violence.
