The public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane has expressed shock at the aggressive way in which the artist Dr. Esther Mahlangu was attacked.
The public protector visited Mahlangu at her home in Mpumalanga on Thursday 24 March and was shocked after seeing bruises on her face.

“It’s shocking and painful to see how violent this person was. The bruises on Mahlangu’s face show how heartless the attacker was,” Mkhwebane said as per TimesLIVE.
Mkhwebane wasn’t alone at Mahlangu’s, as she was accompanied by the musician Dr. Nothembi Mkhwebane and Methodist Church ladies.

“We saw it fit that as women coming from KwaNdebele we needed to be here for Gogo. She’s our icon. She is such a world-renowned icon and is a national key point on her own. Her culture, knowledge, and talent is so rich. It’s for the government to make resources available for her to be protected.
“The first thing is to have somebody she can stay with full time, a helper. She is old and needs to be taken care of,” the public protector added.
