Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mnqithi has heaped praise on Erwin Saavedra whom they signed in January’s transfer window.
Many Masandawana fans who were longing to see Saavedra were left disappointed when he sustained an injury on February 19 in a 0-0 stalemate against Al-Merreik in Egypt.

Mnqithi says Saavedra is going to be of help at Sundowns, especially in the CAF Champions League.
“We signed a top player there, that’s one thing I can tell you, we signed an unbelievably talented player,” Mnqithi said on the Ultimate Sports Show on Metro FM.
“A player that’s still going to help us a lot, it’s unfortunate that he got injured when he was really beginning to adapt to our style of play.
“But we’re very optimistic that in the same Champions League, he’s still going to play a very big role in helping the team.”

Before he joined the Brazilians, Saavedra was a captain at his former club Bolivar and Mnqithi says his leadership skills will pave their way forward.
“He’s a player who should look to play week in and week out for us, this is what he was doing for his [previous] team and we also want leaders in our team.
“The boy has been a captain of Bolivar for a long time, so we brought another leader, another captain who must lead the team in the right direction and that adds to the number of captains that we have brought into the team to have powerful leaders within the group that can help the team to pave the way forward,” Mnqithi added.
