Clover confirmed on Monday the identity of the murdered security guard as Terrence Tegg. He was a father of two boys and was engaged and soon to be married. Terrance worked for PPS security and the security service was called in to protect Clover’s property in Clayville from violent protestors who wanted to damage property.
Dimakatso Sello, police spokesperson, says the victim was pelted with stones, whilst his three colleagues sustained injuries. “Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of Terrence. They appeared at the Thembisa Magistrates Court on charges of murder, attempted murder and robbery.”
Terrence was responding to the cries of his colleages who were under attack, that is where he was cornered and beat to death by a mob of angry protestors. This incident has been cased by an ongoing protest at Clover by the Food and Allied Workers (Fawu) and the General Industries Workers’ Union of South Africa (Giwusa). Terrence is the second person to be killed by the angry protesters. In January, Tshepo Molatsi was killed, and he worked for Fidelity.

Steven Velthuysen, the spokesperson at Clover said, “We are devastated about what happened. Terrence lost his life for no reason at all, as did Tshepo Molatsi, who was murdered on January 22. These two hardworking men were just doing their jobs.”
Clover is seeking justice for the two murdered security guards and wants to see those responsible behind bars. “We are working closely with Fidelity, PPS and the SAPS to identify the striking workers involved in these acts to ensure they are brought to justice. All footage has been handed over to the SAPS.”
