Queen Elizabeth II made a special announcement at her Platinum Jubilee that Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, will be known as the Queen Consort once Charles becomes King.
“And when, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service,” Queen Eilizabeth II said in a statement.
Sunday marks exactly 70 years since Queen Elizabeth first ascended to the throne. She was just 25 years old at the time.
In his own statement a day after the announcement, the Prince thanked the queen. And of course he paid tribute to his mother saying, ”We are deeply conscious of the honour represented by my mother’s wish. As we have sought to support and serve Her Majesty and the people of our communities my darling wife has been my own steadfast support throughout. “
