An American federal judge gave the US Federal Trade Commission the go-ahead for their anti-trust lawsuit against Facebook – Meta.

Judge James Boasberg ruled on Tuesday that the FTC can proceed with their bid to force Facebook – Meta – to sell WhatsApp and Instagram.

Meta had asked for the lawsuit to be dismissed in December but Boasberg rejected this appeal on Tuesday.

The FTC tried to get the lawsuit going last year but it was dismissed due to a lack of evidence. They revised the case and Judge Boasberg said that the claim is now “far more robust” and can go ahead.

The FTC claims that Facebook bought up rival companies to eliminate its competition. Key examples being Instagram and WhatsApp.
