After the November 2021 municipal elections, the FF Plus in Gauteng is ready and eager to play a decisive role in restoring service delivery in the province’s eleven municipalities.
The FF Plus is part of multiparty coalitions, which were able to gain control of six municipalities, including three metro councils. The party’s ranks were also strengthened in various councils where it acts as the opposition party and fulfils a significant oversight role.
The principle of multiparty coalitions cooperating with civil-rights organisations could pave the way for a new dispensation where communities have a greater degree of independence and much more of a say, possibly enabling them to collectively take control of the Gauteng government, where the ANC has since 2019 only been able to obtain a majority of one seat in a 73-seat legislature.
Restoring and stabilising service delivery in Gauteng, South Africa’s economic heartbeat, is vital for ensuring a stable South African economy. With its representation on local, provincial and national level, the FF Plus will make a valuable contribution to establishing stable coalition politics in South Africa.
