Novak Djokovic, the world’s number one tennis player, has been denied entry to Australia. He is now likely to be deported after his visa was canceled. This has to do with an exemption he received for not taking the Covid injection.
Djokovic wrote on his Instagram on Monday that he was on his way to Australia, with his vaccine release. His plans were thwarted by border officials when they found Djokovic had failed to provide appropriate evidence to comply with the admission requirements to Australia. Djokovic himself has already defeated Covid. The 34-year-old player was detained at Melbourne Airport for hours due to a visa error and was eventually denied entry. His lawyers have indicated they will appeal the decision, but deportation could mean his hopes of defending his Australian Open title later this month are over.
Djokovic, who has repeatedly refused to say whether he was vaccinated against coronavirus, confirmed on Tuesday that he had received an exemption to take part in Australia’s top tennis tournament.
