A minor human trafficking victim was rescued over the weekend after she was allegedly lured away from her home in March 2021, detained against her will and exposed to drugs and sexual exploitation.
The Hawks’ Serious Organized Crime Investigation Teams have received a call about a 17-year-old girl who was allegedly held against her. After an in-depth investigation, the Hawks raided an apartment in Sunnyside, Pretoria.
Minor rescued
Four suspects between the ages of 19 and 40 were arrested and the minor girl (17), as well as a 25-year-old woman, were rescued on Friday 31 December 2021. Both victims were taken to a place of safety.
Two of the four suspects arrested are fugitives who have been missing since September 2019. They were allegedly linked to another case of human trafficking where nine suspects were arrested.
