Public works and infrastructure Minister, Patricia de Lille, confirmed that a suspect has been arrested in connection with fire at parliament.
“The person is now officially a suspect and will appear in court on Tuesday,” said Brigadier Nomthandazo Mbambo, Hawks spokesperson.
Mbambo confirmed the 49-year-old suspect is not a parliament employee and has gained access to the precinct through a back window.
As things are, the fire caused extensive damage to Alpha (the old assembly) and a structural ceiling collapsed in the new assembly building.
