It’s that time of the year. Go outside at midnight and you might be able to see a shadow-like figure dim the light of our ever-shining moon. This is no reason for concern, it’s not an eclipse, nor the overcast. Why, it’s none other than Santa Claus!
Today we take a look at one of the most known and oldest vehicles of all time, even more popular than the famous Nimbus 3000, we know to belong to a certain young wizard – Santa’s sleigh.
Santa’s sleigh has been around for a very, very, long time. Construction of the earliest models has been proven to date back as far as 1675 years. Though we have no photos of the very first prototype, historians believe it might look a little something like this…
The model exhibited above is merely a suggestion, since the oldest photo we have of the notorious sleigh only dates back to three years after construction started.
It is hard to imagine how these earlier models allowed Mr. Claus to deliver over 1.9 billion gifts in one single day, even taking into consideration the time zones and the lowly amount of air traffic, experienced in those early years.
It is easy to understand why Kris Kringle asked the elves for construction on a stronger model. There have been many attempts over the years. We can take a look at the later model of 2003. The SS Kringle 3000. This model pulled by nine real reindeer with the ability to use the Christmas spirit to fly. This model also came packed with a 500-reindeer powered jet turbine engine. Papa Elf engineered this model when the spirit of Christmas was no longer powerful enough to keep Santa’s sleigh airborne. Of course, it had a few glitches, as documented in the movie documentary “Elf”. In the motion picture, we see that this model could not be powered when the children of the world stop believing in Santa.
The fact that Santa is such a private guy who has been dodging the press for thousands of years and lives so secluded, made it evident that a model running only on Christmas spirit wasn’t sufficient anymore. Not to mention all the conspiracy theorists on social media, who spread lies about him quote, on quote “not being real”.
It’s easy to understand why Mr. Claus needed an upgrade.
Now carrying approximately R68 473 415 000,00 (roughly $4.3 billion) worth in presents and a slightly bigger 1,748-old man, Santa’s new and improved sleigh!
The speed of the vehicle is estimated at 2896819 meters per second (roughly 1,800 miles per second), calculated by the time limit and amount of houses he has to cover. Meaning this vehicle travels approximately 8,000 times faster than an average bullet! This model can carry up to 2.36 million metric tonnes. More than 7,000 times heavier than the Boeing 747, calculated from the billions of presents he has to travel with. Talk about heavy cargo.
Now we understand why Mr. Claus traded in the classics for this brand new, modern sports-model.
