Penguin Random House South Africa publishes the Matt and Mia’s adventures series that consists of five books titled:
- Matt and Mia meet a bully
- Matt and Mia build a bridge
- Matt and Mia in the garden
- Matt and Mia help Eddy
- Matt and Mia rescue Tom Cat
These books of 24 pages each, beautifully written by Antoinette Bradley Brown and illustrated by Surojit Bhattacharjee, are perfect for guided reading for children aged 5-7-years-old. The full page illustrations are bold and colourful, and the text rich and interesting. Early readers will definitely be drawn to these well-designed books.
The series encourages active participation from the reader. I love that there are questions at the end of each page that helps the reader to really connect with the content and bring the stories vividly to life. Not only will the reader’s attention span and vocabulary be enhanced, but his or her listening, reading and speaking skills will also greatly benefit. The publisher confirms: “These books aim to develop visual and auditory memory, story mapping and sequential memory through a learning and reading through play philosophy.”
The author, Antoinette Bradley Brown, was born and raised in South Africa. She is a school principal in Abu Dhabi and is busy obtaining her PhD in Education through Stirling University in Stirling, Scotland.
