Eskom suspended load shedding at 05:00 am on Wednesday morning. This comes as a relief to the Electoral Commission of SA as the counting of local government ballot papers across the country resumes.
According to the Electoral Commission of South Africa, the counting process was disrupted after stage 2 load shedding was implemented on Tuesday from 16:00 to 05:00 on Wednesday.
The load shedding was due to a generation unit at Kusile power station tripping, which added to the constraints.
Due to the disruption only 58% of votes had been counted instead of 90% as the IEC had hoped for. The current figures nationally show that the ANC takes the lead with 46.42%, the DA has 22.25% and the EFF have 10.9% so far.
The voter numbers are expected to be finalized on Wednesday.
