The Gladstone (RLY), 4th Kimberley Scouts SA Group held an awards ceremony on 11 September 2021.
The highest award a Cub (aged 7 – 11) can receive, the LEAPING WOLF, was awarded to Lebone Modise.
The highest award a Scout (aged 12 – 17) can receive, THE SPRINGBOK, was awarded to Chandré Greenan.
The highest award a Rover (aged 18+) can receive, THE BP AWARD, was awarded to Thozamile Dingaan from the Gryffindor Rovers Crew.
Both Lebone and Chandré are part of the Gladstone (RLY) group, while Thozamile is the acting Scout group leader for Gladstone and also the district commissioner for Scouts SA for Kimberley town and country.
To earn their awards, candidates are taken through various challenges ranging from community service, personal development and even skills development. All specific to their different age groups.
Contrary to common belief it’s not only about camping and hiking.
Of the Scouts unit only 1% actually achieve this highest honour and Chandré has earned it at the age of 16. Joining Gladstone’s unbroken record of highest Springbok and Leaping Wolf award recipients in Northern Cape Region.
All three awards are a rare occurrence and Gladstone (RLY) proudly celebrated all three in one ceremony. An accomplishment that is never seen.
