Depression and anxiety in youth double compared to pre-pandemic numbers

At the beginning of the pandemic, the CDC had advised that children and adolescents were considered the low-risk group in regards to medical concerns and complications from Covid-19. However as the pandemic rages on, there is a rise in pediatric Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations and there is a rising global syndemic of depression and anxiety in young people.

Due to the fact that there is a potential delay of 2-4 years that is observed between the traumatic event and the development of a mental health disorder, the effects of the pandemic will possible be seen more clearly over the next 2-4 years.

Researchers also found that women and older youth were both at greater risk for both depression and anxiety difficulties, to help combat this, children need a regular routine and support from their families and schools.
