Sometimes just the smallest tweak to your make-up routine can make the biggest difference to your appearance. Here are five clever make-up tricks that will help turn back the clock. You can be your own professional make-up artist with a little know-how and some insider tips. We’ve taken a look at some of the most common aging concerns and found ways to fix them quickly and easily.

Try these make-up tricks to look younger

If you have hooded eyelids, you need simple eyeshadow
HERE’S HOW: The best way to counteract hooded or sagging eyelids is to keep your eyeshadow simple and light. Dark eyeshadow shades applied along the socket line accentuate the problem. Instead, use pale eyeshadow colours like cream or gold with a slightly iridescent finish and apply to the entire eyelid. Add definition with a brown kohl pencil rather than a black one, and finish off the look with mascara.
If your eyelids are unevenly sagging, use a slightly darker shade in the crease of the eye that sags more to give a lifted look.

If you have undefined features you need bolder eyebrows
HERE’S HOW: Notice your features starting to recede? It’s a natural part of the ageing process, but by creating bold, perfectly shaped eyebrows your features are suddenly defined and your face is instantly lifted. Start by assessing the shape and arch-point of your brows. By shifting the highest part of the arch away from dead centre, which can create a startled appearance, and out slightly towards your temples, your face will look more youthful. Once the position of the arch is decided, fill in your brows with a brow pencil and consider adding colour with a brow powder to enhance this face framing feature even more.

If you have thin lips, you need whiter teeth
HERE’S HOW It’s no secret that as you age your teeth start to lose their sparkle, so turn back the clock with a whitening toothpaste or dental treatment to draw attention away from your thinning lips towards your brightened teeth. Top it off with a lip liner applied to the outside edge of your lips and a creamy, semi-matte lipstick formula. These make-up tricks will help give your lips a fuller appearance.

If you have hollow cheekbones, you need cleverly placed blush
HERE’S HOW: For years you’ve been told to apply your blush to the apples of your cheeks and work it under the cheekbone. Now it’s time to take a different approach. As your cheeks start to hollow it’s crucial to give them the appearance of being lifted and plumped up, so use a crème blush and apply the color along the top of your cheekbones and up and out towards your temples. Think of it as a lifting motion and blend the color into place. Your face should instantly look more lifted.

If you have deep lines and wrinkles you need enhanced luminosity
HERE’S HOW: The deeper your lines and wrinkles, the harder it is for light to reflect off your complexion, making your skin appear dull. The secret? Luminosity. Use a radiance-enhancing foundation or BB cream all over your face and counteract any areas of serious dullness or dark shadows, such as under your eyes or above your lips, with an illuminator or creamy concealer to blur lines and lift the area overall.
