What’s better than one stylin’ side table? Two – and in cool clashing colours. Get into it! DIY side tables: Rose gold.
YOU’LL NEED:
IKEA PS 2012 side table
2 x large soft-bristle paintbrushes
Gold leaf primer Bronze or rose gold leaf sheets (around 3 packs)
Marble self-adhesive contact paper (around 1.5 metres)
1. Assemble the side table (be sure to leave out the middle rack that also comes in the pack), leaving the table top off the actual frame.
2. With a paintbrush, paint the wooden frame with the gold leaf primer per the instructions on the back of the bottle. It usually needs around 5-10 minutes setting time.
3. Apply the gold leaf to the frame one sheet at a time until you’ve covered the entire surface. Next up, brush each section of the gold leaf down down with a soft paintbrush.
4. Measure out the marble contact to fit the surface of the table top. Apply the contact, working evenly to avoid bubbles. Try using a ruler to keep things smooth.
5. Finally, place the table top onto the side table’s frame and bask in all your DIY glory.
tip: If you’re not exactly crafty but want the rose gold finish, try spraying the frame with metallic spray paint in rose gold. Set off the rose gold with a black version. After assembling the side table, paint the legs with a water-based black paint (you may need a few coats). Then cover your table top with marble contact. ‘marble’ Looks just like the real thing, costs next to nothing and takes 30 minutes to make.
