This Turkish hairdresser has wowed Instagram with his unusual trimming method that involves setting the client’s hair ablaze instead of using scissors. Ismail Avuccular, 26, who runs a barbershop in the southern Turkish city of Antalya, burns his customers’ hair off instead of cutting it. A series of videos of his unusual trim style has seen him amass over 130,000 followers on Instagram.
According to the news site DHA, the method has also been tried before in Indonesia, India and Gaza. Avuccular, who has been using the method for six years in Turkey, said that barbers who do not know how to perform the singeing style should not attempt it.
Avuccular, who opened his own barbers after working as an apprentice for 15 years, said that he learned this method six years ago after watching a video of an Indian barber who singed hair instead of cutting it.
He said: “I wanted to try this method on one of my customers. I told him that if he accepted my offer, I would give him TRY 100 (GBP 10) and he accepted. “First, I prepared a mixture so that the scalp does not burn and applied it to the customer’s hair. One of our friends waited with a fire extinguisher for preventive purposes, another with a towel, and another with a bucket of water. “When everyone was ready, I lit it with my lighter and the hair caught fire. Later, when I realised that my customer did not suffer any harm, I continued the hair cutting process this way.” Avuccular added: “Everyone is curious about this method. Thousands of people watch our posts on social media. When this situation grabbed people’s attention, I started earning even more money. “However, this method of cutting hair is more costly than conventional methods, almost double.”
