This is the viral moment with over 7 million views where a little girl mistakes a priest’s blessing as a celebratory gesture and high-fives him, making it difficult for him to continue because he is clearly laughing after the unexpected gesture.
The adorable little girl was filmed during a mass although it was not revealed what the blessing was for, but Spanish language press that have widely reported the story speculates it was a baptism. The footage showing the Spanish-speaking priest has meanwhile gone viral, notching up 7.1 million views on Tik Tok since it was posted two days ago.
The video shows the moment the young girl is accompanied by an older woman holding a candle indicating it might be a first communion. The priest raises his hand up and over the girl to begin blessing her, but she mistakes it for a high-five and slaps his hand. The priest is very amused by the gesture as he is seen trying to hold back his laughter and briefly covers his mouth. The woman holds onto the little girl’s arm so she does not do it again while another person laughs in the background. The priest eventually continues with his blessing, apparently composing himself. Once he finishes his blessing, the man reaches for am Aspergillum which is used to sprinkle holy water and is heard saying “She said, give me a high-five, father”. He uses the device to spangle holy water on both the woman and the little girl and the video ends.
