Michael Pytkiewicz, a former resident of Secunda and student of Highveld Ridge Primary School and Secondary School Vaalrivier in Standerton, moved to the republic of Ireland when he was 21 years old. After two years of settling down, getting used to the cultural differences and establishing a firm foundation, he worked on making one of his dreams a reality.
In 2018 Michael picked up his pen and opened his notebook, adamant on writing and publishing a book. Mid 2019 he received a call from Austin Macauley Publishers, a publishing house in London, England, with a publishing contract for his title I am Elliot. In November 2020 the book was released to the public and is currently being sold on a global scale.
“As a young boy, expressing myself was difficult. Poetry and short stories were usually my only means of venting frustrations or sharing my thoughts and aspirations. A teacher at Vaalrivier encouraged me to pursue the arts beyond matric. From that point forward it was my goal to become an author,” Michael told us when asked how this all came to be.
The book itself talks about a fictional character growing up in the Secunda, Standerton area. He had been subjected to various challenges he had to overcome. I am Elliot is available in most book stores globally, but can be found in Exclusive Books Stores nationwide, and on Takealot.com
“I just want to continue writing and keep bringing the stories and characters in my mind to life. I’ll be submitting some amazing pieces for publishing this year, such as the very sad, true story of my grandfather’s survival during WW2. Beyond that, I just want to stay sane during this pandemic, keep fit and active, keep doing what I do’,” Michael replies to what the future looks like.
