Police officers from the Hluhluwe Stock Theft Unit on 9 April 2022 received information about a man who allegedly killed a crocodile.
Lt. Col. Nqobile Gwala, police spokesperson, says police officers and game rangers proceeded to KwaJobe in Hluhluwe where the team found the remains of a crocodile as well as the skeletal remains of various animals.

The investigation revealed that on 4 April 2022, the crocodile was shot and killed in the Budlwini area in Hluhluwe. Police officers also seized a firearm as well as ammunition from the suspect.
Police arrested Sphamandla Mhlongo (32) on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition as well as the possession of game meat.

He appeared before the Ubombo Magistrate’s Court on 11 April 2022. He was released on R500 bail. He will reappear in court on 6 May 2022.
