As the trial of the five men accused of killing Senzo Meyiwa at Kelly Khumalo’s house in Vosloorus, east of Johannesburg in October 2014 began at the Pretoria High Court, Afriform’s legal head, advocate Gerrie Nel, said he believes more people should be arrested and he is not sure if the strategy of the police is to bring the mastermind in at a later stage.
Judge Tshifhiwa Maumela postponed the trial to April 12 after the defence advocate of the suspects argued that she did not have time to consult with Sifiso Ntulu on the witness statements presented. The judge further ordered that the accused suspects should be available when they are required by their legal counsels. Afriforum’s legal head, Advocate Gerrie Nel, spoke to the press after the case had been postponed and insisted that more arrests should have been made.

“From what I have seen and the briefings I have had with the SA Police Service, I am convinced that we have the correct people in court, but I would have expected more arrests. I would have expected other people to be with them, because I have said all along that I do not believe that this was a robbery that went wrong.”
“As far as I am concerned, the police know who it is. They have finished the investigation. As far as I am concerned, the police have a good idea of who the mastermind is and I am sure that if the mastermind is not added to the indictment, there will be other indictments in the future.”
