A three-year-old girl, Asemahle Ntshalintshali, was allegedly severely assaulted before her death.

However, a relative of the child said she went to bed at night on 10 March and woke up at 04:00 the next morning, vomiting. The child then died.

Lt. col. Nqobile Gwala, police spokesperson, says at first an inquest docket was opened and no foul play was suspected. There were no visible injuries to the child’s body.

“An intensive investigation and the medical examination revealed that the child had internal blood clots in her head and kidneys,” explains Gwala.

The relative, a 19-year-old man, was arrested on a charge of murder. He will appear in court on Tuesday.
